eGovPH grows to 56 million downloads as pressure builds on digital government system

Growing adoption puts focus on whether one platform can handle rising demand for public services.

The eGovPH app has reached 56 million downloads, turning it into one of the government’s most heavily used digital services. That scale brings a new reality where outages and capacity limits carry much bigger consequences when millions rely on the same platform.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology said the platform is now adding around 100,000 downloads a day, with usage surging 700% over the past year. That pace has already pushed eGovPH far past its original 30 million-user target set for 2028.

The platform was developed entirely by DICT personnel and integrates services from more than 1,300 government systems. It also sits within a wider network of 28 digital platforms managed by the agency’s e-Government office, all part of an ongoing push to bring more public services into digital channels.

What once required separate visits to multiple offices is increasingly routed through a single system. From IDs and permits to social welfare programs, local government services, and citizen complaints, more transactions now pass through eGovPH as the main entry point for government services.

That concentration has already shown its limits. In April, the system went offline for about five hours after demand exceeded available cloud capacity, forcing the DICT to activate backup infrastructure originally intended for disaster recovery.

The interruption highlighted how quickly usage can outpace system capacity when demand rises faster than upgrades and scaling work. As adoption grows, attention is moving toward reliability, especially for services that people now expect to access consistently through a single platform.
