Bonchon staff in Pampanga mall seen washing mop in sink used for dishes

“I personally witnessed a crew member washing a mop in the same kitchen sink used for washing dishes and other food-service items” the netizen wrote.

They expressed concern over the restaurant’s sanitation practices, raising questions about the staff’s knowledge of food safety.

“As customers, we trust restaurants to maintain proper hygiene and sanitation standards behind the scenes—not just in the dining area,” they added.

Bonchon Philippines replied to the post on Threads, assuring customers that the incident did not reflect standard practices within the chain.

“This is not the experience we expect any of our guests to have at Bonchon, as we are committed to upholding the highest standards of food quality and cleanliness,” the chain said.

Bonchon Philippines said the matter had been raised with the branch. The restaurant also said the branch had a wrong procedure in place.

The Sanitation Code of the Philippines sets requirements for the design, installation, and cleaning of food equipment and utensils.

Section 23(a) states that “[food equipment and utensils] shall be so designed, fabricated and installed so that cleaning is easy and they do not pose health hazards.”

The provision does not, on its face, specifically address whether cleaning equipment such as mops may be washed in the same sink used for dishes. The incident, however, has prompted questions about the branch’s sanitation procedures and how cleaning equipment is handled within food-preparation areas.
