Tax collections rose 5.4% from a year earlier and came in ahead of the BIR’s target for the period.
The government has collected more than ₱2 trillion in taxes in the first seven months of 2026, putting the Bureau of Internal Revenue ahead of its target and giving the state more revenue to work with as it funds spending for the rest of the year.
The BIR collected ₱2.003 trillion from January to July, 5.4% higher than the ₱1.9003 trillion collected during the same period last year. The haul was also 0.68% above the agency’s ₱1.99-trillion target for the period.
The figure represents around 60% of the BIR’s full-year collection target, giving the agency a stronger starting point for the remaining five months of 2026.
July alone generated ₱358.44 billion, up 5.73% from ₱339.11 billion a year earlier and 6.66% above the ₱336.07-billion target.
The BIR attributed the figures to improving taxpayer compliance and sustained collection efforts across the agency. For businesses, the stronger collections come as the government pushes to raise more revenue while making tax compliance simpler and more efficient.
