Elijah Canlas leads biopic on Edgar Jopson as trailer teases intense performances and star-studded ensemble.
Five years in the making and the highly anticipated full trailer for the upcoming biographical film “Edjop” has finally hit the Internet, unveiling the movie’s powerhouse ensemble ahead of its September 16 release.
Directed by Katski Flores, with a screenplay co-written by Jade Castro and Flores, the film is centered on the extraordinary life of Edgar “Edjop” Jopson. Actor Elijah Canlas portrays the titular role of the prominent Ateneo student leader who became a key figure in the underground resistance during the Martial Law era.
Alongside Canlas is actress Jodi Sta. Maria, who will portray Edjop’s eldest daughter, Joyette, framed to narrate the story, and Kakie Pangilinan as Edjop’s wife, Joy.

Joining the star-studded cast are actor Cedrick Juan, theater legends Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo and Gab Pangilinan, and actress Nour Hooshmand. The film also features known academics, such as veteran journalist Christian Esguerra in his debut film role as the dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos, Sr., and historian Xiao Chua in an extra role.
The trailer’s primary hook is the dramatic reveal of the actor taking on the titular role, showcasing intense glimpses of a performance that captures Jopson’s evolution from a moderate student council president to a fierce revolutionary icon.
Backed by a stellar supporting cast stepping into the shoes of Jopson’s contemporaries, family members, and political adversaries during the First Quarter Storm, the ensemble shapes up to deliver gripping and emotionally charged performances.
“Edjop” is produced by Open Water Productions and Mad Goats Pictures, in association with Narra Post Production by Wildsound, and is distributed by Warner Bros. PH.
With a sizable cast now officially out in the open and the trailer teasing high-stakes dramatic tension, “Edjop” is quickly cementing itself as a major cinematic event that aims to powerfully honor the legacy of one of the Philippines’ most inspiring modern heroes.
