Gloc-9 has revealed that fear for his safety has forced him to stay silent on one of his most powerful songs.
The Filipino hip-hop icon admitted that he is sometimes asked not to perform his 2009 socio-political hit “Upuan” at certain events, and that he agrees out of concern for his life and his family’s safety.
Speaking in a recent appearance on Kara David’s vodcast “i-Listen,” the rapper said event organizers have repeatedly prohibited him from performing the track, which is known for its sharp critique of political greed and inequality.
Gloc-9 acknowledged that complying with these requests comes with guilt. He shared that he has often wondered whether defying the restriction could make a stronger statement, but ultimately chooses to prioritize his family.
The “Sirena” and “Simpleng Tao” artist was candid about his fears, saying his main goal is to make it home safely to his children. “Baka kasi ‘pag kinanta ko, hindi ako makauwi sa anak ko,” he said.
David affirmed his difficult position, noting that the public continues to carry the song’s message even when he is unable to perform it himself.
Now marking 29 years in the music industry, Gloc-9 expressed gratitude to fans who keep his music alive. He said that while his songs now belong to the people, his foremost priority will always be returning home safely to his children.
