Cebu-based Dr. Coffee now has a branch in Aklan.
Many Filipinos love to drink coffee daily, and one café is putting a medical spin on the habit by serving its drinks in “doses.”
With three branches in Cebu, Dr. Coffee is a hospital-themed café with the tagline, “Your daily ‘dose’ of remedy.” Last July, it opened its first branch outside Cebu in Kalibo in Aklan.
The café’s medical concept is also rooted in its owner, Al-Shahid de Leon Ismael, who is a doctor and works as a medical and research professor.
Their menu is “prescribed by Dr. Coffee,” with drinks offered in “low” and “high” doses instead of the usual regular and large sizes. Customers can also order an “overdose,” a one-liter bottle of their chosen drink.
Charles Fernandez, a content creator based in Aklan, posted on Facebook about the opening of the café’s newest branch. There, he tried one of its more unusual offerings: drinks served in transfusion-style bags complete with a small stand.
In his vlog, Fernandez also highlighted the café’s coffee beans sourced from Baguio, Benguet, and Atok, which he said support local farmers.
The hospital theme extends to the café’s workspaces, dubbed the “Intensive Work Unit,” where customers can study or work.
Even its operating hours follow the hospital theme, with the café open 24/7.
