The “Mamu; And a Mother Too” star honors her mom and celebrates chosen families in a heartfelt post.
“Mamu; And a Mother Too“ star and trans comedienne Iyah Mina extended a heartfelt Mother’s Day greeting to her own mom and to all kinds of mothers today.
Sharing the love in her latest Facebook update, she wrote, “Mula sa aming ng asawa kong si Vincent, ang anak kong si Bona at sa mga naging jowa at awra niya,” playfully referencing her onscreen partner Vincent (played by Arron Villaflor) and daughter Bona (played by EJ Jallorina).
Celebrating the affinal and unconventional mothers in society, Mina made history as the first trans person to win Best Actress in Philippine cinema for her 2018 screen debut at the Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival.
Perfectly encapsulated by her iconic line from the film, “Pera lang ‘yan, kikitain ko ulit ‘yan,” her character is emblematic of the ultimate Filipina mother.
Mamu represents the selfless mothers who willingly sacrifice everything they have and would do just about anything for their children, whether bound by blood or chosen family.
