BSP approval gives the Japanese financial giant more room to offer financing and banking solutions to local businesses.
MUFG Bank, one of Japan’s largest banks and a major global financial institution, has secured approval from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to operate as a Universal Bank in the Philippines.
The upgrade could give local companies and institutions access to a wider range of financing structures and financial services as they expand, invest and pursue bigger projects.
MUFG Manila has been operating as a commercial bank since 1995 and has built a strong presence among Japanese companies in the Philippines, while also serving major local corporations and conglomerates.
The bank said its upgraded license will allow it to offer more comprehensive solutions, including deeper client engagement and innovative financing structures.
MUFG Manila Country Head Masami Yoshitake said the license will allow the bank to bring more of its global expertise to Philippine clients, while Deputy Country Head Marie Diana Lynn Singson said the expanded capabilities will help support their growth ambitions.
MUFG also has a long-standing partnership with Security Bank Corp. and has been involved in efforts to strengthen the country’s digital and financial ecosystems.
