Tenants say they were left waiting for updates.
A fire that engulfed the third floor of Kai Mall in North Caloocan has forced the mall to temporarily shut its doors, leaving tenants awaiting answers and raising concerns over access to government services housed within the complex.
The blaze started at around 12:30 AM on June 30, 2026, and was raised to the second alarm. Fire was declared out before 3 AM. Investigation is still underway as of press time, and the cause has yet to be disclosed.
Mall management said the fire posed no threat to the public or the surrounding community. Kai Mall is developed and operated by Innov Block Development Corporation.
But despite the assurance, tenants allege they were not provided with details on whether their respective businesses were affected by the fire or when the mall would resume operations.
The disruption extends beyond retailers. Kai Mall connects directly to the North Caloocan City Hall, housing satellite offices for various government services, potentially affecting residents who rely on the site for public transactions.
While other government agencies can be found in nearby malls, many residents say the City Hall location is the most convenient due to its proximity to both City Hall and major public transportation routes.
Beyond the immediate disruption, the incident puts the spotlight on fire safety in large mixed-use developments, where commercial spaces, government offices, and transport access converge under one roof.
