Kai Montinola fulfills dream, sings Filipino ‘Moana’ theme

Fans congratulated Montinola on achieving a goal she had openly manifested years before. 

Kai Montinola has officially performed “Hangganan Ko,” the Filipino version of “How Far I’ll Go” from Disney’s live-action Moana, fulfilling what she has long described as a childhood dream.

The full rendition was released after Disney Philippines previously teased the mystery singer behind the localized soundtrack with the caption, “The ocean called her. Let one singing gwapa take you beyond the reef.” The company has now confirmed Montinola as the voice behind the Filipino theme song.

The milestone carries special meaning for the actress, who has previously shared in interviews that becoming part of a Disney project has always been one of her biggest dreams. A self-confessed Disney fan, Montinola has also spoken about her passion for singing and musical theater, saying she had always hoped to one day lend her voice to a Disney production.

Montinola is the latest Filipino artist to contribute to a Disney soundtrack. In 2024, Belle Mariano recorded “Anong Daratnan,” the Filipino version of “Beyond” from Moana 2.

Fans celebrated the release online, with many congratulating Montinola on achieving a goal she had openly manifested years before. Many also praised her vocals, saying she was a fitting choice to bring the iconic Disney anthem to Filipino audiences.
