Nyoy Volante says he has no regrets giving his song ‘Someday’ to ex-GF Nina

Singer-songwriter Nyoy Volante opens up about writing ‘Someday’ for himself before giving it to Nina.

Years after their highly publicized breakup, singer-songwriter Nyoy Volante has made it clear that he holds no ill feelings toward former girlfriend #Nina.

During his guest appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Nyoy was asked about his current relationship with the Soul Siren and whether they remain on good terms after their past together.

While their romance has long been over, one piece of their musical history continues to endure, “Someday,” the hit song Nyoy wrote that eventually became one of Nina’s most recognizable tracks.

Nyoy revealed that he originally wrote the song for himself. However, while working on his own album, Nina was already nearing completion of hers and needed additional material.

“Yes, but also noong panahon na ’yon, I was actually writing this for myself,” he recalled.

With Nina’s deadline approaching, Nyoy decided to give her the song instead of creating another composition.

“This was supposed to be mine, kaya lang magde-deadline na, so kaysa bumuo pa ’ko ng isa pang awitin, sinama ko na lang itong ‘Someday,’” he explained.

The decision proved significant as Nina went on to turn the song into a major hit. For Nyoy, the track eventually became an international success, attracting interest from artists abroad.

“I’m actually very grateful to this song kasi ito ang awitin ko na umabot na ng international. Everyone wants a version. Koreans have been reaching out to me because of the song,” he shared.

When asked about his relationship with Nina today, Nyoy said they have both moved forward and are now living separate lives.

“Okay naman, everyone’s moved on. Pareho kaming may asawa na,” he said.

He added that while he sees no reason for them to reconnect at present, he personally has no issue with his former girlfriend.

“I don’t think there’s a reason anymore right now to reach out to each other pero, I can’t really speak for everyone, ako, wala akong problem,” Nyoy said.

Now focused on his life he has built with wife Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante, the singer-songwriter said he is happy with where he is today.

“I’m very happy with the family and the life that I have right now. So, okay na ’yon. I’m good,” he added.

Although Nina’s rendition made “Someday” a lasting OPM favorite, the song remains a unique part of Nyoy’s musical journey, one he originally intended to keep for himself before giving it to an artist who would take it to a much wider audience.
