The Iligan City branch space isn’t open to public.

Pickleball has officially taken over the Philippines. From commercial hubs to repurposed warehouses, the sport has evolved from a niche hobby for retirees into a mainstream urban obsession.

But while public and private courts continue to multiply across the country, some companies are choosing to use the sport’s active nature to boost employee well-being.

In Iligan City, this corporate shift recently took place when a Philippine National Bank (PNB) branch converted its own parking lot into a pickleball court.

The setup was highlighted on Facebook by Experience Iligan City, a local community hub, which shared photos of the branch’s employees enjoying a game after hours, congratulating the winning team.

However, before locals rush to bring their paddles, there is a major catch: the court is strictly not open to the public, nor is it available for rent.

Instead, the facility is an exclusive perk designed specifically for the bank’s employees. “It is designed for the benefit of its employees’ wellness,” the community hub noted.

The unconventional setup highlights a highly strategic approach to corporate wellness and real estate.

Even with the abundance of commercial courts in the Philippines, renting out a facility for an entire branch of employees after hours can be costly and logistically difficult.

By simply repurposing their own idle spaces, companies can offer a highly sought-after team-building activity without the overhead of external rental fees.

Rather than letting asphalt sit empty at night, businesses can transform dead zones into thriving recreational hubs for their own teams.

And in an era where employee burnout is high, the ultimate corporate flex isn’t just a higher bonus. Sometimes, it’s simply giving your staff opportunities to wind down.
