The stock market recovered from recent losses, but the local currency remained under pressure as it slipped deeper into ₱61 territory.
Philippine financial markets delivered mixed results on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, as the stock market staged a recovery while the peso extended its decline against the US dollar.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) climbed 91.20 points, or 1.51%, to close at 6,126.22, regaining a large portion of the previous session’s losses. The rebound pulled the index farther away from the 6,000 level after it briefly drifted closer to that level a day earlier, offering some relief following several sessions of market weakness.
Peso remains under pressure
In contrast, the Philippine peso weakened by nearly 23 centavos to close at ₱61.351 against the US dollar, extending its losses for a second consecutive trading day.
The local currency reached an intraday high of ₱61.48, about 30 centavos weaker than the previous session’s rate. The latest finish pushed the peso deeper into ₱61 territory, reversing part of the recovery it achieved earlier this month when it briefly returned to the ₱60 level.
Tuesday’s trading showed the divergence between the country’s key markets, with the index recovering ground while the peso continued to face downward pressure in the foreign exchange market.
