Virgin Labfest XXII reveals 12 new one-act plays for 2027

CCP, Tanghalang Pilipino, Writers Bloc spotlight fresh Filipino works set for June 2027 run.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines, alongside Tanghalang Pilipino and The Writers Bloc, has unveiled the main feature lineup for the 22nd edition of the Virgin Labfest (VLF), showcasing twelve brand-new one-act plays that promise a diverse range of compelling and thought-provoking stories.

Slated to take the stage in June 2027, the highly anticipated theater festival will once again champion untried, untested, and unstaged works by Filipino playwrights.

Audiences can look forward to “Acid Rain” by M Manalastas, “Alas Kwatro ng Hapon,” “‘Pag ‘Di Na Mainit” by Josh Paradeza, “Alpas” by Miguel Louie B. De Guzman, and a rerun of “Ang Kasal(anan)” by Juan Ekis, which ran in the previous iteration of VLF last June.

The festival will also showcase “Body & Soul” by Siege Malvar, “Goto Heaven” by Bernardine Burgos de Belen, and “Ing Ima Ku” by actor J.C. Santos.

Rounding out the roster are “Larawan ng Filipina Bilang Artista” by Andrew Estacio, “Nothing Special Happened Today” by Nigel Santos, “Pak You” and “Bago Bumaha ang Maynila” by John Francis Panes, “Sinapupunan ng Digmaan” by Amanda Socorro L. Echanis, and “Trono” by Rafa Sumilong.

In an official social media announcement, the organizers capped off the exciting news with a warm invitation to theatergoers: “Magkita-kita tayo muli sa tanghalan!”

With festival dates, venue details, and ticketing information to be announced, Philippine theater fans can now start anticipating another vibrant season of fresh, thought-provoking performances.
