Aside from being a national athlete, she’s an International Weightlifting Federation official and physical education lecturer
Hidilyn Diaz is hoping to have a baby soon amid her busy schedule.
Speaking to radar Entertainment and select media on the sidelines of IKEA Pasay City’s “Store of the Year” celebration on May 14, Hidilyn reflected on her life after winning the country’s historic Olympic gold medal in 2021.
She got married to coach Julius Naranjo in July 2022, became an International Weightlifting Federation official in December 2022, earned her business administration degree in 2023, launched the Hidilyn Diaz Weightlifting Academy in Rizal in 2024, took culinary courses in 2025, and became a physical education lecturer at the University of the Philippines Diliman in January 2026. Over the years, she still participated in international weightlifting competitions.
Now, Hidilyn noted that she’s more dedicated to mentorship and administrative roles recently.
“Sa ngayon, nagte-training pa rin ako. Patuloy pa rin. Pero may mga bagay na kailangan ko rin gawin to spread the sports,” she said. “At the end of the day, nanalo ako ng gold medal. Pero malungkot na andito ka sa taas. Mas maganda kung mas marami kang na-guide… kung palarin o bigyan ng pagkaktaon maglaro, maglalaro ako.”
Ultimately, Hidilyn’s biggest hope: “Sana, magka-baby na rin.”
Her married life with Julius is nothing short of exciting. “Masaya! Andiyan lang. Ang maganda kasi, coach ko rin si Julius at coach ni Ian (Delos Santos),” referring to their 19-year-old mentee who’s making waves in the international junior weightlifting scene.
“Nandoon kami,” she said about Julius. “Magkasama kami, aligned ‘yong love namin sa weightlifting.”
Hidilyn Diaz noted that while she is now more focused on mentorship and administrative roles, her biggest hope is to have a baby.
