Winwyn calls for focus on heart, not “half” or “pure” labels in pageantry.

Former international beauty queen and actress Winwyn Marquez has weighed in on the ongoing conversation about identity and representation in Philippine pageantry, stressing that love for country and commitment matter more than bloodline.

Drawing from her own experience representing the Philippines abroad, Marquez said she has always believed that success comes from hard work, sacrifice, character, and pride in carrying the country’s name, not ancestry.

“I’ve always believed that success comes from hard work, dedication, character, ‘yong sacrifice and the pride you have in representing your country. Not from what’s in your blood,” she shared.

The former Reina Hispanoamericana titleholder also emphasized that the discussion should not revolve around being “half” or “pure,” but on genuine patriotism and the willingness to serve and represent the Philippines with honor.

“Because at the end of the day, this has nothing to do with being half or pure. If your heart is for your country, if you’re willing to put in the work, and if you represent it with pride, that’s all that should matter,” she said.

Her message has resonated with many pageant fans who believe that being Filipino is ultimately defined by dedication, pride, and sincere love for the nation.
