Users report failed transactions, inaccessible funds, and payment delays as mobile and online banking services go down nationwide.
Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) customers spent the past few days grappling with widespread service disruptions when a prolonged system outage left many unable to access their accounts, transfer funds, pay bills, and complete online transactions.
The outage, which began on June 14, affected BPI’s mobile app, online banking platform, and the use of BPI credentials on third-party applications. Several customers also encountered issues using their debit and credit cards for online and e-commerce purchases.
As frustrations mounted online, many users described the disruption as a major inconvenience given how daily transactions now rely heavily on digital banking channels. Some said they were briefly able to log in before being kicked out again, while others reported that they could access the app but were unable to perform transactions.
Complaints ranged from delayed salary access and failed fund transfers to unpaid bills and concerns over upcoming financial obligations.
BPI said branches, ATMs, and Cash Accept Machines remained operational throughout the disruption. The bank also assured payroll clients that salary credits had been processed on schedule and could still be accessed through physical channels.
As of 6 AM on Tuesday, BPI announced that mobile banking services had been restored, although customers were warned that slower response times may still be experienced due to heavy transaction volumes as systems gradually stabilize.
The frustrations also showed how deeply online banking has become embedded in everyday life, making service disruptions and technical glitches significant interruptions to daily living.
radar has reached out to BPI for additional comments and was told an official statement would be released soon.
