A Cebu Pacific passenger is drawing attention online after claiming she was nearly charged ₱2,500 for an allegedly oversized carry-on bag, only to discover that her luggage was actually within the airline’s published size limits.
In a Facebook post that has been widely shared, Leonesa Enverga recounted her recent trip from Singapore to Malaysia and then Manila to Daraga via Cebu Pacific. According to her, airline personnel stopped her at the boarding gate after determining that her hand-carry luggage did not fit inside the airline’s baggage sizer.
Enverga said she was immediately informed that her luggage exceeded the allowable dimensions and was required to pay a ₱2,500 fee.
However, she challenged the assessment and requested that airline staff measure her luggage using a tape measure instead of relying solely on the sizer.
“I demanded them to measure my luggage using a tape measure and prove to me it is in excess,” she wrote.
According to Enverga, the manual measurement showed that her luggage was actually one centimeter smaller than Cebu Pacific’s stated size limit. As a result, she said the airline canceled the charge.
The incident prompted the passenger to question the accuracy of the baggage sizer being used at the airport.
“Basically their sizer is a scam or inaccurate,” she wrote, expressing concern that other travelers may have paid similar fees without contesting the measurement.
She also criticized the ₱2,500 charge as excessive, arguing that the luggage would have fit inside the aircraft cabin.
The post comes amid increased public discussion over airline carry-on baggage enforcement, particularly as carriers tighten compliance with size and weight restrictions to maximize cabin safety and overhead bin space.
Cebu Pacific allows passengers to bring one carry-on bag subject to specific size and weight limits. Airlines typically use physical baggage sizers at airport gates to verify compliance before boarding.
As of writing, Cebu Pacific has yet to publicly respond to Enverga’s specific allegations.
The viral post has sparked debate online, with some travelers sharing similar experiences involving carry-on baggage checks, while others defended the airline’s right to enforce its published policies.
