“I’mPerfect” dominates 9th Eddys nominations, emerging as early frontrunner in a tight race among Philippine cinema’s biggest titles

“I’mPerfect” emerged as the film to beat at the 9th Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards after securing the most nominations when the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) officially unveiled this year’s contenders.

Leading a highly competitive field that showcases the depth and diversity of contemporary Filipino filmmaking, “I’mPerfect” earned nominations in several major categories, including Best Picture, Best Director for Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, Best Actress for Krystel Go, Best Supporting Actress for Sylvia Sanchez, Best Screenplay, and Best Visual Effects.

The nominations mark the official start of awards season as The Eddys prepares to honor the finest achievements in Philippine cinema during its awards ceremony on July 5 at the Ceremonial Hall of the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Newport World Resorts, Pasay City.

Joining “I’mPerfect” in the race for Best Picture are “Bar Boys: After School,” “Eraserheads: Combo on the Run,” “Journeyman,” “Quezon,” “Sunshine,” and “UnMarry”—a lineup that reflects the wide range of stories and filmmaking styles that defined the past year.

The Best Director category pits Bernardo against some of the country’s most respected filmmakers, including Antoinette Jadaone (“Sunshine”), Jeffrey Jeturian (“UnMarry”), Christian Paolo Lat and Dominic Lat (“Journeyman”), Kip Oebanda (“Bar Boys: After School”), Jerrold Tarog (“Quezon”), and Maria Diane Ventura (“Eraserheads: Combo on the Run”).

The acting races are equally stacked with acclaimed performances. Krystel Go earned a Best Actress nomination for “I’mPerfect” alongside Mylene Dizon (“Habang Nilalamon ng Hydra ang Kasaysayan”), Barbie Forteza (“Kontrabida Academy”), Angelica Panganiban (“UnMarry”), Maris Racal (“Sunshine”), and Charo Santos (“Only We Know”).

Meanwhile, Sylvia Sanchez added another nomination tally for “I’mPerfect” in the Best Supporting Actress category, strengthening the film’s standing as one of the most recognized entries this year.

The Best Actor race features Carlo Aquino (“Bar Boys: After School”), Dingdong Dantes (“Only We Know”), Joshua Garcia (“Meet, Greet & Bye”), Jericho Rosales (“Quezon”), JC Santos (“Journeyman”), and Vice Ganda (“Call Me Mother”).

Apart from the major awards, The Eddys will also recognize excellence in screenplay, cinematography, visual effects, musical score, production design, sound, editing, and movie theme song, honoring the creative talents working behind the scenes of Philippine cinema.

Hosted by Pops Fernandez and Kim Atienza and directed by Calvin Neria, the 9th Eddys is expected to gather some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry for a celebration of cinematic excellence.
