Comedian urges graduates to fight fake news, reject political manipulation, and draws applause with sharp digs at public officials.
“The Unkabogable” superstar Vice Ganda urged the youth to use their platforms to champion truth, challenge the status quo, and resist political manipulation and misinformation during her speech as guest speaker at the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Mass Communication (UP-CMC) Recognition Ceremony 2026.
According to videos uploaded by Tinig ng Plaridel, the college’s official student publication, the “It’s Showtime” host opened her speech with a playful spin on the show’s iconic greeting: “What’s up, madlang Iskolar ng Bayan!” She then shifted into Girlie, her character from the 2013 film “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy,” joking, “Goodness gracious! Kayo ang mga graduates ng UP?”
Her signature comedic flair set the tone, blending humor with pointed remarks, as she joked about being unsure why she was invited.
The mood soon turned more serious as Vice underscored the crucial role that new media graduates will play in society.
“Hindi kayo ang magsisimula ng kurapsyon. Hindi kayo ang maghahasik ng mga kasinungalingan. Hindi kayo ang magliligaw at magmamanipula ng opinyon ng publiko. Hindi kayo ang magpapasiguro ng impunidad. Hindi kayo ang magtatakip sa mga dapat managot sa batas tulad ng ibang politiko na nagtapos din sa Unibersidad na ito…”
“Our change. Change, not chaos. You’re expected to share your education, not disinformation,” she maintained.
In a sharp, witty punchline that drew roaring applause, Vice added, “Hindi kayo ang magtatakip sa mga dapat managot sa batas, tulad ng ibang politiko na nagtapos din sa unibersidad na ito… [kagaya] nina senator,” seemingly taking aim at certain public officials who also graduated from the state university.
