Philippine financial markets delivered mixed results on Monday as stocks notched a fourth straight gain while the peso surrendered part of its recent recovery.
Philippine financial markets ended mixed on Monday, July 20, 2026, as the stock market extended its winning streak while the peso weakened after three consecutive sessions of gains.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) climbed 11.61 points, or 0.18%, to close at 6,415.72, extending the gains posted in the previous trading session. The benchmark remained above the 6,400 level, signaling that the market continues to hold on to its recent upward momentum.
Peso gives up recent gains
The Philippine peso weakened, losing nearly 10 centavos to close at ₱61.686 against the US dollar, reversing part of the gains accumulated over the previous three trading days.
The local currency reached an intraday high of ₱61.71, around 9 centavos weaker than the previous session’s rate. Despite Monday’s decline, the peso remained within the ₱61 range, suggesting that while recent improvements have eased some pressure, external headwinds continue to weigh on the local currency.
Monday’s trading reflected diverging movements across Philippine financial markets. While equities continued to attract buying interest and pushed the index to another higher close, the peso retreated, highlighting lingering pressure in the foreign exchange market as investors monitor global and domestic economic developments.
