From pickleball courts and EV charging stations to entertainment and dining concepts, SM Supermalls expands beyond shopping to meet changing consumer needs

The Filipino mall is evolving, and SM Supermalls is betting on what consumers want next.

SM Supermalls is expanding beyond traditional retail as changing consumer habits push mall operators to create more experience-driven spaces that encourage people to spend time, engage with communities, and discover new products and services.

The company said its first-half 2026 performance was supported by sustained foot traffic and demand for new lifestyle offerings, with investments focused on fitness, entertainment, dining, sustainability, and accessibility.

Among its biggest expansions is pickleball, with SM now operating 86 courts across 29 malls, making it the country’s largest mall-based pickleball destination. The opening of the SM Seaside Cebu Arena also strengthens its entertainment portfolio, adding a venue that can accommodate up to 25,000 guests.

SM has also expanded initiatives designed to meet emerging consumer needs, including the SM Sensory Lab for mallgoers with sensory processing challenges and electric vehicle charging stations now available across all 90 Philippine malls.

At the same time, the mall operator continues to bring in new brands and dining concepts, including San Ginés Chocolatería, Super Matcha, and international fashion brands Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister, while hosting large-scale community events and pop culture activations.

As Filipino consumers prioritize experiences alongside purchases, SM’s latest moves show how retail spaces are being redesigned to capture more of their time, interests, and spending.
