Philippine financial markets closed lower on Thursday as stocks declined for a third straight session while the peso gave up part of the previous day’s strong recovery.

Philippine financial markets ended lower on Thursday, August 6, 2026, as the stock market extended its losses while the peso eased after posting a sharp recovery in the previous trading session.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) dropped 8.36 points, or 0.13%, to close at 6,277.95, extending the losses posted over the previous two trading sessions. The index remained below the 6,300 level, suggesting the market continued to trade cautiously amid the absence of strong buying momentum.

Peso pares gains

The Philippine peso weakened, losing nearly 7 centavos to close at ₱60.815 against the US dollar, giving up part of the gains recorded in the previous trading session.

The local currency reached an intraday high of ₱60.835, around 22 centavos weaker than Wednesday’s rate. Despite the modest pullback, the peso remained within the ₱60 territory, indicating that much of its recent recovery against the US dollar was still intact.

Thursday’s session reflected cautious sentiment across Philippine financial markets. While local equities extended their losing streak to three consecutive trading days, the peso only gave back a small portion of its previous gains, suggesting the foreign exchange market remained more resilient than the stock market.
