Global fashion icon says curated feeds may not show the “whole story” behind the personalities people admire.
Heart Evangelista urged social media users to be more discerning about the personalities they choose to admire, noting that what people project online may not always tell the whole story.
During her guesting on the latest episode of “Your Honor,” the Global Fashion Icon spoke candidly about her perception of influencers who, in her view, carry themselves with an entitled attitude.
“Hindi ko ma-take kasi ‘yong mga ibang influencers na kung umasta… Yabang mo, Sis! Ang yabang mo! …Because I wasn’t brought up that way,” Heart said.
She clarified that she is not opposed to people flaunting their achievements when it is part of their work, but draws the line at what she sees as unnecessary displays of wealth.
“Mayabang ako pero iniyayabang ko ‘yong kailangan ko iyabang kasi trabaho ko ‘yon. Pero kung anong binili ko, ‘di ko ‘yon ia-unbox,” she pointed out. “Iba-iba tayo ng trip. I respect that. I’m fine with that. …I just don’t like people [who feel too entitled]. Turned off ako.”
Heart then acknowledged that, like anyone else, public figures have their own flaws that may not always be visible online.
“I’ll never say it this way because I’m not brought up like that, pero hanapan mo ako ng dumi, ilagay kita sa microscope, mas maraming mahahanap sa’yo na bacteria—’yung flesh-eating bacteria, ’yong hindi ka sinipon, ICU na agad,” she said.
Despite her strong opinions, Heart said she would rather remain civil than force a friendship with people whose personalities do not sit well with her.
“Pero sila ang maiingay. Di ko take. Wow! I’ll just be pleasant to them, but I’m not going to make chika. What am I going to make chika to you? Ayaw ko ng plastik. I don’t like entitled people,” she added.
Her comments ultimately point to a larger question in an age when carefully curated feeds can make online personalities seem almost untouchable: How much of the person we admire online is actually the person behind the screen? For Heart, the answer seems to be a reminder to look beyond the unboxing videos, designer labels, and polished posts—and pay closer attention to how people carry themselves when the camera is no longer the center of attention.
