Content creator livestreams animal abuse over damaged flip-flops.
Hart Yu, a Batangas content creator known for his viral “Mis Hart” hair-rebonding videos, is facing online allegations of animal abuse after he livestreamed the capture of a dog following claims that it had chewed his flip-flops.
In the now-deleted Facebook livestream, Yu instructed people to catch, beat, and kill the captured dog, which is heard crying as it is restrained with a metal pole, along with a second dog.
The incident has since prompted action from the barangay, which said it sought guidance from the Municipal Police of Lemery after seeing the livestream and related videos on September 13.
In an update, the barangay said authorities are still reviewing the videos and waiting for the appropriate police referral before proceeding with an investigation. It is also tracing the whereabouts of the dog that was reportedly sold after the incident.
Yu has also been summoned to the barangay to explain his side and discuss what happened.
The case comes as animal welfare advocates and concerned citizens call for the incident to be investigated rather than dismissed as online content or a personal dispute.
Under the Animal Welfare Act, cruelty, maltreatment, and neglect of animals are prohibited, with penalties applying to acts that cause unnecessary suffering or death.
The law also says that animals must be treated humanely and prohibits the killing of animals except under circumstances allowed by law.
