Viral ‘chismoso’ dog keeps watch as neighbors argue

“Nangangagat ba aso nyo? Hindi chismoso lang,” read the text on the video, which had drawn around 159,000 reactions, 7,700 shares and thousands of comments when captured in screenshots.

Instead of barking or running toward the commotion, the dog stays remarkably still, repeatedly turning its head in the direction of the voices as if trying to follow every development.

Its almost human-like posture made the scene even funnier. Standing on its hind legs with its paws resting comfortably on the ledge, the dog looked less like a guard dog and more like a neighborhood “Marites” who had secured the perfect spot to hear everything.

“Mabait po yung alaga namin,” Vet Core Plus joked in the caption, adding the hashtags #marites, #chismoso and #dogs.

Filipino netizens quickly joined in.

“Yung chismoso ka nung past life mo tapos na-reincarnate ka bilang aso,” wrote Zuir Eileen.

Others joked that the behavior might have been learned from its humans. “Baka nung tuta pa siya ganyan ginagawa ng amo niya kaya ginagaya na,” Alex B. Raguindin commented.

“Mana sa amo,” several commenters quipped, while Arbe Insizar joked: “Mabuti na yung tsismoso siya, wag lang mangagat.”

Another dog owner, Marvin Oñate, said his own pet does something similar whenever there is an argument near their terrace.

Dogs are naturally alert to changes in their surroundings and can react strongly to unfamiliar or emotionally charged sounds. Their hearing is also more sensitive than humans’, making raised voices particularly difficult for them to ignore.

Whether the dog actually understood that a neighborhood fight was unfolding is another matter. But judging from its posture and unwavering attention, netizens were convinced of one thing:
