Paulo Avelino’s cryptic post hints at losses for actress beyond the company.
Actress and television host Kim Chiu has broken her silence on the legal case involving her sister, Lakambini “Lakam” Chiu, admitting that the situation has been painful while stressing that there is still much more to the story that she has chosen not to reveal publicly.
Following her sister’s arraignment at the Quezon City Hall of Justice on Thursday, Kim Chiu released a statement addressing the controversy surrounding the qualified theft case involving House of Little Bunny Philippines, Inc. (HOLB), the business where the siblings are co-stakeholders.
“Sobrang nasasaktan po ako. People may have different opinions with my decision, and I understand that,” Chiu said.
While acknowledging the reactions to her decision to pursue the case, the actress emphasized that the matter “was never about my personal money,” she said.
According to Chiu, the business was established in 2023 after years of hard work, sacrifices, and dreams. She shared that she poured her heart into the company, hoping it would eventually become part of her future when she decides to step away from show business.
Chiu also clarified that the case she filed covers only the period from January to July 2025. However, she hinted that there are still other details that she has deliberately kept private because of the ongoing legal proceedings.
“There is so much more to this story that I am choosing not to disclose publicly,” she said.
For Chiu, pursuing the case is also about protecting the company and what she and her business partners worked hard to build.
“I believe that going through this legal process should never take away the company’s right to stand up for what is right, protect what the company has worked for, and seek accountability through the proper legal process,” she added.
Amid Chiu’s emotional statement, her onscreen partner Paulo Avelino also appeared to show his support for the actress through a post on X.
Avelino pointed to the amount allegedly involved in the case and asked people to look beyond the figure itself.
I don’t think people understand the value of the “amount” stolen. Think about what you would do with that money. Bibili ka ng bahay? Medical Bills? School? Magsisimula ka ng bagong buhay? That amount can build the life you’ve always dreamed of. Now imagine someone took the life you’re supposed to be living in. Sa company palang yan. Pano pa kaya sa….. 🤷♂️

The actor ended his post with a cryptic remark that further drew attention to the issue. “Sa company palang ‘yan. Pano pa kaya sa…..”
Earlier that day, Chiu attended the arraignment of Lakambini, who had been arrested over the qualified theft complaint.
The case stemmed from alleged financial discrepancies amounting to approximately ₱44.4 million involving HOLB, the company where the sisters are co-stakeholders.
Lakambini was able to post bail through a surety bond worth P5.6 million and was subsequently released from detention.
Following the arraignment, Chiu’s lawyer, Atty. Margrein Gregana, said her client remains determined to pursue the case against Lakambini.
“Naniniwala ang HOLB at si Kim Chiu sa justice system natin at pinapaubaya niya ito na dadaanan sa tamang proseso para makamit ang hustisya,” Gregana said.
In a separate statement released to ABS-CBN News, Gregana clarified that the complaint is a corporate matter and should not be viewed simply as a personal dispute between the siblings.
For Chiu, the controversy has placed her in an emotionally difficult position, but her latest statement makes clear that she intends to let the legal process take its course while protecting the business she worked hard to establish.
