Iconic 90s love team Marvin and Jolina prove their enduring appeal during ‘Mommy Guard’ mall shoot.
“Kulto pa rin sila”
Roman Perez Jr. was talking about the enduring cult following of Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal’s onscreen partnership, as the former ’90s love team reaches the peak of production for their TV5 comedy series “Mommy Guard.”
Jolina recently uploaded a video of Marvin and herself shooting at a mall in Manila, capturing the fans’ reaction as they screamed and jumped at the sight of the two stars. Perez later shared a similar clip on his social media, showing the onscreen couple descending an escalator amid screams from the crowd.
Jolina plays a security guard at a private school in “Mommy Guard,” while Marvin portrays the school principal.
“Namili silang dalawa sa Divisoria dahil may Founders’ Night sa school ni Marvin at isinama niya si Mommy Guard Jolina sa pamimili ng souvenir sa 168 Mall,” Perez told radar Entertainment when asked about the scene the onscreen partners were shooting in the area.
“Kulto pa rin sila hanggang ngayon. Malakas ang dalawa,” the director added.
Marvin and Jolina rose to fame as a love team in the youth-oriented series “Gimik,” which ran from 1996 to 1999. Their chemistry carried over to the big screen, with “Labs Kita… Okey Ka Lang?” and “Hey Babe!” becoming part of the era’s romantic-comedy landscape. The two reunited on the big screen in “Ex Ex Lovers” in 2025.
“Mommy Guard” marks Marvin and Jolina’s return to television as a tandem. Jolina’s character also has other potential love interests in the story, played by Dominic Ochoa and Cedrick Juan.
