DepEd investigates as reason for reported act remains unclear.

Two pupils at a public elementary school in Mapandan, Pangasinan, were allegedly forced by their teacher to drink Coca-Cola mixed with saliva from their classmates, according to a video described by local officials.

The footage reportedly showed a teacher instructing pupils to spit into a plastic bottle containing Coca-Cola. The bottle was then allegedly passed around the classroom before the drink was given to two children.

The reason behind the teacher’s alleged actions remains unclear.

The pupils reportedly vomited after drinking from the bottle, while one of them was seen crying.

The video has not been widely circulated. The Mangaldan councilor who received the footage said it was too disturbing to share publicly, but forwarded it to the regional director of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Region 1 and called for an investigation.

The regional director’s office subsequently directed the Pangasinan 1 Schools Division Superintendent and Schools Division Office to investigate the incident. An on-site visit was also reportedly being planned.

Meanwhile, the Mapandan councilor’s office said it would withhold further details for now to protect the children’s welfare, citing Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act. The office said its initial step was to request a medical checkup for the child.

The alleged incident may violate DepEd Order No. 40, series of 2012, or the agency’s Child Protection Policy, which prohibits physical, humiliating, and degrading punishment.

The policy specifically prohibits forcing a child to swallow substances or materials that may cause discomfort or threaten the child’s health, safety, or sense of security.

If the allegations are established, the teacher could face criminal and administrative proceedings, including possible child abuse charges and disciplinary action from DepEd.

The case could also put the teacher’s professional license at risk, depending on the investigation’s findings and the outcome of applicable legal proceedings.

The incident remains under investigation, and the identities of the children have not been disclosed to protect their privacy.
