QCinema at the Park revives Peque Gallaga’s 1997 fantasy classic featuring a young Anne Curtis.
The 14th QCinema International Film Festival is taking a nostalgic trip back to the ’90s with an outdoor screening of the 1997 fantasy adventure “Magic Kingdom: Ang Alamat ng Damortis” as part of its QCinema at the Park lineup at the Quezon Memorial Circle.
The special screening marks a rare theatrical revival of the Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes classic, which holds a special place in Philippine pop culture as the film that launched superstar Anne Curtis’ acting career.
At just 12 years old, Curtis made her cinematic debut as Princess Dahlia. Reflecting on the impact of her first film, the actress previously expressed her enduring passion for acting, the craft she began exploring in the magical world of Damortis.
“I’m celebrating 25 years in the industry. Pretty insane. Passion for acting is still very much burning,” Curtis said in a behind-the-scenes documentary about the film.
The screening offers longtime fans a chance to revisit the fantasy adventure while introducing a new generation of moviegoers to a memorable chapter in Philippine cinema. It is part of QCinema’s 14th edition, themed “Genre’teurs.”
The screening date has yet to be announced as the festival prepares to release its full public schedule. QCinema runs from November 13 to 22, with tickets for other festival films priced at P200. Screenings will be held at Gateway Cineplex, Robinsons Galleria, Ayala Malls TriNoma, Fisher Mall Quezon City, and SM City Fairview.
