Angel Castro speaks out on beauty mishap and cruel online comments

“Initially po ipapaayos ko na dapat sa Asian Eye Institute kaso kailangan daw muna pababain ang uric acid ko kasi medyo mataas,” she shared.

Angel explained that the extensions left a scratch on her eye, affecting her vision. “May scratch… (because of eyelash extensions). Yes, kapag natatamaan ng ilaw nagdodoble, triple pa minsan, ang paningin ko.”

She has since stopped using eyelash extensions after the painful experience. “Hindi na po naulit. I use plaster and temporary lashes now. Pero ang extensions never na po kasi sobrang kakaibang sakit po talaga, parang nasunog ang mata po.”

Despite the ordeal, she assured everyone that she is recovering.

Away from the cameras, Angel admitted that her naturally bubbly personality is often misunderstood, making her an easy target for criticism on social media. “Bakla po talaga ako kaya sabi po ni Viva bawasan ko daw po a little bit, which is good advice naman.”

Although she projects confidence in public, the actress confessed that negative comments continue to affect her emotionally. To protect her mental well-being, she has stopped reading online comments and has even deactivated her social media accounts.

She added that those who know her personally understand that she is far more sensitive than many people realize. “Everyone who knows me, the production staff, alam po nila na sobrang sensitive ko.”

“When it comes to showing up for work and presenting myself to the public, I have to put on a brave face,” she explained.

Among the hurtful remarks she receives, Angel said attacks on her physical appearance are the hardest to ignore. “To be honest po, sa mga basher po, sometimes kaya ko, sometimes, hindi,” she began. “People would really go out of their way para malaman mo na pangit ka.”

“Mga random stuff. Parang, they really go out of their way, parang hindi po nila iniisip na tao rin kami na may feelings.”

She acknowledged that repeated insults can eventually affect a person’s self-esteem. “Madami po ang nagsasabi na pangit ako kaya, sometimes, kapag paulit-ulit, maniniwala ka po talaga.”

For that reason, Angel said having a strong support system has become essential in helping her stay grounded. “So, it’s important that you have a core group of people na naniniwala sa yo.”

“Kaya, when people around you believe in you, you’ll believe in yourself na rin. It doesn’t matter what these people are saying, basta may core group ka na alam kung sino ka talaga.”

Raised in a conservative household despite coming from a family of respected media personalities, Angel also reflected on her upbringing. She is the daughter of broadcast journalist Diego Castro and former actress Raven Villanueva.

Her grandparents are the late broadcast journalist Angelo Castro Jr., one of the creators of “TV Patrol,” and the late actress and Marian devotee June Keithley, a prominent figure during the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.

Previously known as Claire Castro, Angel revealed that her entry into showbiz happened without her father’s knowledge.

“Actually nagarista po ako behind my dad’s back. Ang eksena po, bata pa ako pero layas, tapos nagaudition po ako sa GMA hindi po alam ng dad ko tapos ang GMA pa ang naginform sa dad ko.”

She also recalled how strict her family was while she was growing up with her grandparents. “Noong bata nga po ako bawal ako mag-scary Halloween costume, kasi demonic daw po iyon.”

With her project “Creampie,” Angel officially steps into her first solo lead role for VMX, marking a new chapter in her career as she headlines one of the platform’s latest original films.
