RabGel stars prioritize growth as “Dating Alys Perez” roles test acting chops.
Taking on emotionally demanding roles in Viva One’s “Dating Alys Perez” has become a defining project for Rabin Angeles and Angela Muji.
The RabGel tandem admitted the series challenged them to become better actors after feeling they had fallen short in some of their previous performances.
Angela said portraying Alys inspired her to approach acting with greater purpose, hoping to give justice to the character and repay the fans who continue to support her.
“Lagi ko pong tinatandaan na kailangan ko pong bumawi dahil hindi ako masyadong satisfied with my performance (before). Every time I see it, halatang nag-struggle talaga ako,” Angela said.
“This time I want to give justice to Alice. I’m not doing this because it’s my job but because I’m bringing the character to life. I’m doing this for the people who continue to support me, and I don’t want to let them down,” she declared.
Rabin shared the same goal, revealing that he carefully prepared for the series’ emotionally heavy scenes and sought guidance from veteran actress Anna Feleo to improve his performance.
“Sa mga heavy scenes din ako nahirapan kaya pinaghandaan ko po talaga siya ng maayos. Kinausap ko rin si Ms. Ana Feleo tungkol sa mga nahihirapan ako at inayos ko lahat iyon bago magsimula dito,” said Rabin.
“Gaya ni Angela, gusto ko rin bumawi dahil sa previous project namin, hindi pa po ako maka-arte nang maayos dahil bago pa lang ako noon,” he explained.
Directed by Crisanto B. Aquino and based on Beeyotch’s hit Wattpad novel, the series follows Alys Perez (Muji), who is in a relationship with Tripp Palma (Zeke Polina) after a painful breakup with Drake Palma (Angeles).
However, Drake returns determined to win her back, even pretending he is about to marry Christine (Julienne Rosello) to get closer to Alys.
The lead stars have drawn praise online for their more mature performances, with one emotional confrontation between Alys and Drake even going viral on TikTok.
Fans have also continued to ask about the real status of the RabGel tandem. While neither confirmed they are officially together, both said they are happy with what they have and are not rushing into defining their relationship.
“Masaya po kami on [the relationship] we have. We don’t have to define it kasi we’re okay with this as of the moment. Hindi po kami nagmamadali into things. We just let it unfold naturally. Kung darating po iyon, darating po,” Angela shared.
Rabin echoed her sentiment, saying, “Gaya po ng sinabi ni Angela, hindi po namin minamadali. Darating at darating po.”
As “Dating Alys Perez” heads toward its finale, the series continues to captivate viewers with its blend of romance, heartbreak and second chances while highlighting the growth of its young lead stars. The remaining episodes are streaming on Viva One through August.
