In a recent social media reveal, the two acclaimed filmmakers confirmed they are co-writing a new screenplay titled "One for the Road." Following a meeting with Regal Entertainment's Roselle Monteverde, industry insiders are hailing this partnership—which merges Oebanda’s sociopolitical depth with Villanueva’s signature absurdist humor—as a pivotal moment for Philippine cinema this year. Kip Oebanda and Victor Kaiba Villanueva team up for new film
Filmmakers Kip Oebanda and Victor Kaiba Villanueva are joining forces for an upcoming feature.
In an Instagram Story on April 22, Villanueva shared a screenshot of what seems to be the screenplay for “One for the Road,” written by Oebanda and himself. He also wrote “Bar Boys” and “Patay na si Hesus,” referring to their respective masterpieces.
Oebanda, meanwhile, reshared the story with the caption, “Yes.”
The Regal connection
Hours after that, Regal Entertainment head Roselle Monteverde tagged him in a post with external vice president Keith Monteverde and strategist John Paul Egalin Abellera—fueling speculations that the company will produce his and Villanueva’s film.
“Always nice chatting with Direk Kip,” Monteverde said in the caption. Oebanda reshared the post as a story, writing, “Nice catching up po.”
Details about “One for the Road” remain under wraps as of writing.
The partnership may just be the collaboration of the year: Villanueva’s works carry dark comedy and absurdist humor, which appears to complement the sociopolitical critique and masa appeal of Oebanda’s.
What happens when the mind behind Bar Boys meets the director of Patay na si Hesus? A new screenplay titled ‘One for the Road’ has surfaced, and Regal Entertainment looks ready to bring this powerhouse collaboration to the big screen in 2026.
