Catriona Gray breaks her silence on her breakup with Sam Milby, revealing how a canceled engagement left her heartbroken, how therapy helped her heal, and why she ultimately chose herself.
Four years after their love story began, Catriona Gray is finally opening up about the heartbreak that ended her engagement to actor Sam Milby.
In a candid sit-down interview on the YouTube channel of broadcaster Karen Davila, the beauty queen-turned-actress broke her silence and shared, for the first time in full detail, what led to their breakup.
The truth behind the broken engagement
Gray revealed that although Milby had proposed and they both believed they were moving toward marriage, things eventually changed.

“There was a part in our relationship where he realized that he wasn’t ready to take it to that stage of commitment we thought we were on, because he had proposed,” she shared. “Months later, he realized he wasn’t ready. That was very hurtful for me. I was blindsided at the time.”
The realization came months after the proposal, an unexpected turn that left her shattered. Gray admitted she tried her best to save the relationship, holding on to love and hope.
“I really tried to make it work. I was willing to adjust because, when you love someone, you’re willing to understand them,” she said. “But it got to a point where, at that age and after everything we’d been through, if you’re still not sure, I think that’s already an answer.”

For four years, the couple built a life together. When doubts surfaced after an engagement, Gray found herself confronting not only heartbreak but also difficult truths about timing, certainty, and self-worth.
She described feeling “shattered” and “broken,” especially having to navigate the pain under public scrutiny. “I didn’t want to talk about it because it was so painful,” she admitted.
Speculations about their split first surfaced in early 2024, with their talent management initially stating that the couple was facing challenges and working through them. Nearly a year later, Milby confirmed they were no longer engaged. Gray, at the time, chose silence and focused on work until now.
In the aftermath, she made a choice that would redefine her healing journey.
“I realized that I needed to choose myself at that moment because I had already given so much in trying to adjust,” she said. “I don’t look down on myself for that. I did it because I loved the person.”
Choosing self-love and finding a new chapter
The heartbreak, she shared, became a turning point. Gray sought professional help and committed to therapy for two years. She also leaned on her closest friends and family, strengthening bonds that helped her rediscover herself.
“It’s been a really healing journey. I feel like I came back home to myself. The version of me now is the healthiest I’ve ever been,” she reflected.
Despite everything, Gray remains hopeful about love. She confirmed that she is currently dating a non-showbiz personality and made it clear that one painful chapter has not changed her belief in romance.
“Absolutely, I still believe in love,” she said. “If you have a bad experience with a guy or two, you shouldn’t allow that to reframe how you see love. Love is beautiful.”
Looking ahead, Gray is certain about what she wants. “As a woman, I want to have a family. I want to get married, and I’d love to be a mom someday. I want a partner who values me and sees that future, too. I don’t want to wait around for someone to figure it out.”
From heartbreak to healing, Catriona Gray’s story is no longer just about a breakup. It is about choosing oneself, rebuilding from pain, and believing that love when it is certain will come again.
As a woman, I want to have a family. I want to get married, and I’d love to be a mom someday. I want a partner who values me and sees that future, too. I don’t want to wait around for someone to figure it out.
