Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray begins a new chapter as she makes her acting debut in the Valentine’s film “The Loved One,” sharing the screen with Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis.

After conquering the worlds of pageantry, music, and advocacy, Catriona Gray is ready to explore yet another passion: acting.

Fresh from releasing her first-ever Christmas single last year, the Miss Universe 2018 is set to make her big-screen acting debut in the bittersweet Valentine’s film “The Loved One,” where she stars alongside industry heavyweights Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis.

Why Catriona Gray said “Yes” to her first film role

For Catriona, the decision to say “yes” to the project was deeply influenced by the opportunity to work under the direction of Irene Villamor, whose emotionally rich storytelling she has long admired. Known for acclaimed romantic films such as “Sid & Aya: Not a Love Story” and “Only We Know,” the director’s creative vision instantly resonated with her.

“I really love her energy, and siguro meron akong feeling that ‘you would really walk me through it,’ and she really did. And of course, when I heard who the other cast was, I was very flattered to be considered as a newbie. So, it was an incredible experience for me,” Catriona shared.

Stepping onto a film set for the first time could have been daunting, but Catriona described the experience as warm, encouraging, and unexpectedly comforting. From the production crew to her co-stars, she felt fully supported throughout the process, a gesture she says made a lasting impression.

“I’m very proud to be a part of this as my first acting stint. But it is a really beautiful story, and I guess that was the biggest reason nag-yes ako,” she added.

Working closely with Jericho and Anne, two of the most respected actors in the industry, made her debut even more meaningful. Catriona expressed deep admiration for their dedication and professionalism, noting how honored she felt to share scenes with them.

“I really respect them both equally in their craft,” she said.

While nerves naturally crept in during her first day of shooting, they quickly faded as the atmosphere on set remained light and welcoming. Catriona recalled how everyone went out of their way to help her relax and settle into her role.

“And so, it was just such an enjoyable experience,” she revealed.

She also found herself in awe as she watched Jericho and Anne seamlessly switch between casual banter and intense emotional delivery.

“I was really observing how everything went. I was so amazed kasi nagba-banter lang silang dalawa sa scene, and then biglang ready rin kapag ready na ang camera. And I was like, ‘Whoa, ang cool!’”

With “The Loved One,” Catriona embarks on an exciting new journey, one that showcases her willingness to step beyond her comfort zone and embrace fresh challenges, proving once again that her passion for growth knows no bounds.
