“Para Kay Sue” screens Aug. 12 at Gateway Cineplex, honors indie film icon.
The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) will honor the late actress Sue Prado through a special tribute screening as part of the 38th Gawad Alternatibo.
Titled “Para Kay Sue,” the screening is set on August 12 at Gateway Cineplex 18 and will be free and open to the public, organizers announced on social media.
The tribute highlights Prado’s memorable performances and her lasting contribution to Philippine alternative cinema.
The lineup features a selection of films that reflect her impact on the independent scene, including Kim Timan’s “Caramel Child,” Sam Manasca’s “Kung Wala Nang Tulad Natin,” Alleison Dimatulac’s “Subasko,” Pepe Diokno’s “Lumang Tugtugin,” and Raymart Avellanada’s “Marahan.”
The 38th CCP Gawad Alternatibo runs from August 7 to 16, 2026, with screenings at Red Carpet Cinemas in Shangri-La Plaza and Gateway Cineplex 18. The awarding ceremony is scheduled for August 13.
Established in 1987, Gawad Alternatibo remains the longest-running independent film competition of its kind in Southeast Asia, serving as a vital platform for emerging filmmakers and a space that champions bold, alternative storytelling in Philippine cinema.
