PETRONAS denies social media claims, says Malaysian fuel supply remains priority.

Malaysia’s state oil firm Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) has denied involvement in a reported deal with Davao del Norte, after claims surfaced that its local government unit was planning to procure 44 million liters of oil from the neighboring country.

These reports stemmed from unverified social media posts, which said discussions with PETRONAS were underway. But the Malaysian fuel enterprise denied any involvement with such deals, clarifying it is “not aware of, nor involved in, any such arrangement” and has not entered into any agreement or commitment related to the plan.

PETRONAS added that its priority remains ensuring a stable fuel supply for Malaysia, underscoring limits to its available exports.

The national government is also extending efforts to maximize the country’s fuel supply and has confirmed the arrival of over 700,000 barrels of Russian crude oil last week, the first such shipment in five years.
