A viral Threads post sparks a heated debate.

A woman’s complaint about being asked whether she was still a virgin has ignited a heated debate on Threads, dividing Filipinos over sexual history, personal standards, and the importance of virginity in modern relationships.

“He asked me about my virginity. A very offensive question. Tell me does it matter pa ba in this generation?” wrote Threads user @itsmeniki_29.

The post attracted hundreds of reactions, with some defending the man’s question while others argued that virginity should never determine someone’s worth.

Virginity as a personal standard

Several male commenters insisted that virginity remains important, especially for those who believe in reserving sex for marriage.

One man explained that he remained sexually inexperienced because of his “date-to-marry” mindset and wanted a partner who shared his values.

Others argued that men should be allowed to establish romantic preferences, just as women may have expectations about a man’s financial and emotional stability.

When preference becomes judgment

However, some responses exposed a controversial double standard.

One commenter claimed that only women with multiple sexual partners would find the question offensive, suggesting that virginity reflects a woman’s character.

But sexual history does not automatically determine loyalty, morality, maturity, or someone’s ability to maintain a healthy relationship.

Critics also questioned why women are frequently judged for sexual experiences that society often tolerates among men.

Is the question offensive?

Asking about virginity is not necessarily offensive. Couples may reasonably discuss sexual history, personal boundaries, and expectations.

However, timing, context, and mutual respect matter.

Someone may prefer a virgin partner, but the other person has every right to decline an intrusive question or reject someone whose values differ.

Does virginity still matter?

For some Filipinos, virginity remains a meaningful religious or personal commitment. For others, emotional compatibility, honesty, and mutual respect matter far more.

Neither perspective automatically makes someone morally superior.

The controversy ultimately raises a bigger question: Should virginity remain a personal preference, or should it continue to serve as a measure of someone’s character?

Virginity may matter when choosing a partner. But it should never determine a person’s worth.
