Inside Ken Chu’s absence from F4’s long-awaited Manila reunion.
Fans who packed the Philippine Arena for the long-awaited F4 reunion concert on Saturday noticed one familiar face was missing: Ken Chu.
Instead of reuniting with fellow original members Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, and Vanness Wu, Ken sat out the “F✦FOREVER” Asia World Tour, leaving many fans wondering why one-fourth of the iconic Taiwanese boy band was absent from one of its biggest stops.
The answer traces back months before the tour even began. According to Ken, he was never officially signed on for the reunion. In previous statements, the actor-singer revealed that he only learned he would not be participating when the tour’s promotional materials were released publicly. He said no contract had ever been finalized for his involvement.
Reports from Taiwan have pointed to unresolved differences between Ken and concert organizer B’in Music over tour arrangements and negotiations, ultimately leading organizers to proceed with only three original F4 members.
Despite his absence, there appears to be no public rift between Ken and his former bandmates. He has expressed support for Jerry, Vic, and Vanness and wished them success as they embarked on the anniversary tour.
To complete the four-man lineup, organizers invited Ashin, the celebrated frontman of Taiwanese rock band Mayday, to join the production. Rather than replacing Ken as an official member of F4, Ashin performs alongside the trio in what organizers describe as a special collaboration for the “F✦FOREVER” tour.
Meanwhile, Ken has largely shifted his focus away from large-scale pop reunions. In recent years, he has been pursuing an independent music career while also building an online presence as a content creator, opting for more intimate performances and digital projects instead of mainstream idol activities.
Even without Ken onstage, the Manila stop became a nostalgic celebration for thousands of fans who grew up with “Meteor Garden.” But for many, the reunion also served as a reminder that while F4’s legacy remains timeless, not every reunion can bring everyone back together.
