Filipino alt-rock band pushes back against AI-generated covers, says imperfections make art more human.

The Filipino alternative rock band, formed in 2023, has taken a firm stance against using artificial intelligence to create music. This comes as AI-generated covers of their songs circulate online without their permission, while discussions surrounding Pax Silica also bring AI’s growing role in the Philippines into sharper focus.

“Una sa lahat, hindi kami gagamit ng AI para bumuo ng kanta,” the band said.

Technology may evolve, but human expression remains at the heart of art, said vocalist-guitarist Joao de Leon. “Kahit iba’t ibang era [ng art], hindi mawawala doon ang human expression e… which is the beauty of it.”

Guitarist Mikee Mendoza also pointed to AI’s lack of lived experience. “Ang AI kasi walang experiences, so they cannot write about experiences. Ito hindi hope, but I know na hindi siya marereplace ng AI.”

Bass player Sophia Miranda, meanwhile, highlighted the little imperfections in their own recordings. “Sa mga previous naming kanta, may little mistakes doon na nagpapa-human, na nagustuhan ng tao.”

For drummer Sanders Bayas, those flaws are precisely what make art beautiful. “AI makes everything perfect pero tayo, as humans, ang talagang ikagaganda ng art is the imperfections.”

The band ended their message by saying: “No to AI, guys. ‘Wag natin tangkilikin ‘yan.”

Known for their Billboard Philippines Hot 100-charting tracks “Kalapastangan” and “Pag-Ibig ay Kanibalismo II,” fitterkarma will headline their first major solo show, “kung tayo’y nasa isang horror na pelikula, tiyak ako ang una mong papatayin: The Album Concert,” on September 19, 2026, at the historic Metropolitan Theater Manila.

For a band whose music thrives on obsessive love, folklore, and horror, their latest fear is decidedly real: What happens to human art when machines try to imitate it?
