PEKAF president says no appointment has been finalized as Jornales awaits talks over potential role.

Sparkle star Heath Jornales may soon become the face of the national martial art and sport arnis.

According to online reports, Jornales is being eyed by the Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (PEKAF) as its potential arnis ambassador. Jornales himself appeared to acknowledge the reports when he reposted on his Instagram account one of the online reports about him being considered for the role.

However, when asked if PEKAF had indeed appointed a showbiz personality for the role, PEKAF president Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri responded: “Supposed to be, pero hindi pa namin nakakausap as of now.”

The statement comes as Jornales puts his martial arts background to work in GMA’s action-drama “Taskforce Firewall,” where he plays Gilbert, a young gamer caught in a scam hub who later becomes crucial to the search for Sunshine, played by Shayne Sava.

Jornales, the son of actor and fight director Michael Roy Jornales, trained in arnis, taekwondo, and boxing from a young age. He has also showcased his weapon-handling skills in public appearances and online content.

Heath previously shared his excitement over the series’ action scenes, saying, “Parang mas gamay ko po ’yung action. Sa ‘You’re My Favorite Song,’ nangangati na po ako mag-fight scene.”

He also credited his father for helping him develop his martial arts skills from an early age.

“I’m super thankful din po for my dad na tinuruan niya ’ko starting young. Hanggang ngayon, tinuturuan pa rin niya ako.”

For now, the proposed appointment remains unconfirmed, with Zubiri saying he has yet to speak with Jornales about the potential role.

Heath is also preparing for his rescheduled solo concert, “Heath’s Time,” on September 5 at the New Frontier Theater.
