Iza Calzado and Ben Wintle spill secrets, laughter, and real-life couple moments in their candid new podcast “Between Us.”
When asked why people should tune in to their new podcast, Iza Calzado made it clear: “Ben is shirtless every episode,” and everyone couldn’t stop laughing.
“If it was that easy, I’d do it. Just tell me. If I don’t bring in sponsors, just tell me,” husband Ben Wintle joked at a media event hosted by The Pod Network.
The celebrity couple introduced their first-ever podcast, “Between Us,” featuring candid conversations about adult interests, challenges, and the things mature people should discuss at home.
Couch talks
“I’ll just go back to my deep desire to always have a talk show. And then it never happened. Then I thought, you know what? What would make it more unique? Why don’t I bring in my husband?” the actress shared.
Eight years after tying the knot in Palawan, Iza and Ben welcomed their first child, Deia Amihan, in 2023—named after Iza’s character in the 2016 fantaserye “Encantadia.”
Now that Deia is 3 and Iza hopes for another baby, some heart-to-hearts between married couples go unsaid—but for them, the podcast is their date space.
“We have more serious conversations here than we ever have at home,” the Booky CEO said. “Our hope is that anyone listening who faces the same questions at home—or individually—can connect with our conversations and feel a little less alone.”
Not a marriage podcast
This is not a marriage podcast, Iza clarified, but rather a space where people can learn and understand beneath the “perfect image of marriage.”
“These are conversations that, again, [may have] started because of challenges that rocked our relationship. Just because we’re talking as married people doesn’t mean we’re airing our dirty laundry in public.”
For an actress like Iza, unlearning a lot of her industry standards were key to separating “celebrity Iza” from “podcaster Iza.” Now, it’s more about learning with their guests, the experiences, and the limelight they share together.
“We’ve completed 10 episodes; and madaldal kasi talaga ako eh. Kasi nga ako ‘yong subject lagi. Ako ‘yung i-interview lagi,” Iza shared. “Ben always tells me ‘Shut up, Iza.’ It’s very different. I’m not the star here, and the spotlight is on the guest, on the topic and an energy between us.”
Different crosses, same struggles
At a time where words are often left unsaid, when we may be physically together yet mentally distant, it’s important to take the time to be in the moment. Podcasting isn’t just for listening, but for opening up conversations for people to talk about and live with in a fast-paced, technological reality.
“We’re all humans. We’re all struggling. We’re all going through maybe not the same things, but we all have our own crosses to bear and to just let people know that we’re all kind of the same is a gift.”
