OPM singer says husband underwent surgery, faces ongoing health issues; family hopes for discharge before his birthday.
Singer Jessa Zaragoza has revealed that her husband, fellow OPM artist Dingdong Avanzado, has been facing serious health challenges that have kept him in and out of the hospital for the past two weeks.
In a heartfelt Facebook post on Sunday, July 6, Zaragoza apologized for being inactive on social media and for postponing several work commitments, saying her priority has been caring for her husband.
“I’ve been MIA dahil sa mga todo pasang kaganapan sa life,” she wrote. “Pasensya na sa mga na-postpone kong scheds. ‘Di ako maka focus talaga.”
Zaragoza did not disclose the specific illness or reason for Avanzado’s hospitalization.
According to Zaragoza, the ordeal began around Father’s Day on June 22, when Avanzado started experiencing health problems that required repeated hospital visits.
“Since Father’s Day, June 22 we’ve been going back and forth to the hospital, as Dingdong’s been facing health challenges,” she shared.
The singer revealed that Avanzado had already undergone surgery before being admitted to the hospital again last Friday, describing the experience as an eye-opening reminder of the challenges of caring for a loved one.
“Between his surgery and being admitted again this past Friday, I’ve realized, ‘di rin biro mag-alaga ng loved ones mo na may karamdaman. I have to be on my toes all the time ‘pag may kailangan sya,” Zaragoza said.
She also expressed gratitude to family and friends who visited the veteran singer, sent food, and offered prayers during the difficult time.
“Thank you to all our family & friends who took time to visit Dingdong… Salamat sa mga padala nyong food. We appreciate you all. Thank you for the prayers,” she wrote.
Despite the health scare, Zaragoza said the family remains hopeful that Avanzado will be discharged in time to celebrate his upcoming birthday.
“We’re looking forward to celebrating Dingdong’s birthday out of the hospital. ‘Yon na lang daw ang birthday wish n’ya,” she said.
The singer also acknowledged the doctors overseeing Avanzado’s treatment, thanking cardiologist Dr. Perfecto Palafox, urologist Dr. PJ Fernandez, and infectious disease specialists Dr. Ariola and Dr. Ramos for helping determine the cause of his condition.
The post immediately drew an outpouring of support from fans and fellow celebrities, with many sending prayers and well wishes for the OPM icon’s speedy recovery.
