Reigning queen addresses absence issue, says appearances strategically divided as coronation nears.
Ahead of the coronation night of Miss Philippines Earth on June 27, reigning queen Joy Barcoma addressed concerns from pageant fans who noticed her apparent absence from several pre-pageant activities leading up to the competition.
The issue surfaced after a netizen commented on Facebook questioning Barcoma’s level of involvement as the reigning titleholder.
“I mean, I know she’s busy with a lot of commitments, but as a reigning queen, her absence in almost all activities makes me question her commitment to the cause and her crown,” the netizen wrote.
Barcoma responded, explaining that not all activities required her attendance and that responsibilities were strategically distributed among the reigning queens.
“Hello. First of all, I wasn’t required or invited to all the activities. Hinahati po sa amin ang mga ganap para lahat ng queens may online/offline presence,” she said.
The beauty queen added that the organization intentionally gave opportunities to the other elemental queens to gain visibility and fulfill their responsibilities.
“Masyado na po akong saturated with work, and the org decided to also give highlights and opportunities sa ibang elemental queens because they, too, hold responsibility in promoting the cause and the pageant,” she explained.
Barcoma also emphasized that her commitment to the Miss Philippines Earth advocacy extends beyond official pageant events.
“Pangalawa, if commitment to the cause lang po, you can check how I actively represent MPE sa provincial ganaps… I even encourage local directors and LGUs to send their delegates,” she said, adding that she has ongoing speaking engagements.
She further clarified that queens are assigned monthly targets and responsibilities, which affect how appearances and engagements are distributed.
“Pangatlo, may target ganaps and postings po kami per month, and kailangan ma-achieve ’yan para maging eligible sa allowance namin as queens,” Barcoma said.
Despite her reduced presence in some pre-pageant activities, Barcoma remains active through hosting, speaking engagements, and media appearances as she continues to represent the organization ahead of the June 27 coronation night in Malitbog, Bukidnon. She is set to crown her successor under this year’s theme, “Love in Action.”
