CCP revives “Katy!” with three new songs, 2027 comeback.

The musical “Katy!” is set to return in April 2027, featuring three new songs and Mitch Valdez as the older Katy.

This was confirmed by award-winning writer-director Jose Javier Reyes, who is currently revising the script.

The production will be staged as part of the reopening of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Main Theater, which is currently under renovation.

“All three actresses performing as Katy in the various stages of her life will sing in the finale,” Reyes said in this radar Entertainment exclusive.

Casting for the other two Katys is still underway, with auditions expected to be announced soon.

“I am super excited. After which I am writing another dream musical,” said Reyes, refusing to elaborate. “Secret! But it will also be about Philippine entertainment.”

Reyes, who is also chair of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, added: “Since I can’t make movies, balik theater-writing ako.”

“Katy!” is a landmark musical that tells the life story of Katy de la Cruz, the iconic “Queen of Bodabil” who rose to fame during the golden age of vaudeville in the Philippines. First staged in 1988, the show was written by Reyes with music by Ryan Cayabyab, and has since become a staple in Philippine theater for its vibrant mix of biography, music, and history, offering a nostalgic look at the country’s early entertainment scene while exploring themes of ambition, love, and identity.
