KZ Tandingan opens up about motherhood: “To go and be a parent blindly—that’s not my plan.”

Five and a half years into married life, KZ Tandingan is being refreshingly honest: she’s not ready to become a mother just yet with husband TJ Monterde.

“To go and be a parent blindly—that’s not my plan,” KZ shared with radar Entertainment on Monday night, just minutes after the final show of their four-day concert series, “In Between,” at the Araneta Coliseum.

TJ, ever the steady partner, echoed her sentiment with calm faith. “It comes when it comes… whatever the Lord wills for us,” he said.

Why KZ Tandingan chooses to wait on motherhood

For KZ, the hesitation comes from a deep respect for what motherhood entails. “The pressure of being a parent is so great for a mom,” she explained. “You’re not just carrying your child—you’re changing yourself. Even after you give birth, you are completely changed as a person.”

TJ added, with a smile, “Kung bibigyan kami, thank God. Kung kami lang rin dalawa pang habang buhay, ayos lang. A couple is still a family. Masaya kaming dalawa.”

KZ elaborated that motherhood should come from readiness, not obligation. “I don’t want to be a mom because of pressure, because you need someone to take care of you when you get old. I want to be a mom because I know I’m ready. I wouldn’t bring a child into the world to suffer just because I’m not prepared. To just go and be a parent blindly, that is not my plan. We’re now working very hard to hopefully prepare a good future for our child.”

TJ chimed in with his usual humor. “Yong kapapanganak pa lang n’ya mayroon na siyang lupa,” he said, laughing.

Quoting TJ’s song “Darating Din,”–“sa tamang panahon, darating rin yon”–KZ emphasizes that, in the right time, it will come. For the couple, patience and preparation are key, and for now, they’re enjoying life together.
