The 22-hectare integrated complex targets 100 million eggs annually, signaling a strategic pivot from seafood to a diversified “food security” powerhouse.
Mega Prime Foods Inc. is stepping deeper into agriculture with the construction of a major egg production facility in Zamboanga City, marking a clear shift beyond its long-standing seafood business into broader food manufacturing.
The company has started building the Mega CP Layer Complex, a 22-hectare integrated egg-laying facility designed to produce eggs at industrial scale while introducing more modern, controlled poultry systems to the region. Once fully operational, it is expected to produce up to 100 million eggs annually, with room to expand capacity up to five times as demand grows.
The project is being developed in partnership with a Thailand-based agro-industrial company with global experience in poultry and livestock systems. The foreign partner will handle technical design, farm systems, and operational standards, while local execution is led by Mega Prime Foods.
Two companies, one food security push
Mega Prime Foods Inc. said the project is part of its broader push to strengthen food security and diversify its role in the Philippine food sector. The company, best known for Mega Sardines, has been gradually expanding its portfolio in recent years.
“This collaboration reflects our continued commitment to innovation and nation-building,” said Mega Prime Foods president and CEO Michelle Tiu Lim-Chan, noting the company’s aim to support more stable access to affordable nutrition for Filipino families.

Chief growth and development officer Marvin Tiu Lim said the partnership combines local market experience with international agricultural systems, allowing the company to build a more resilient supply chain for essential food products.
Integrated systems and tighter production controls
The Mega CP Layer Complex will adopt an integrated poultry model that consolidates key stages of egg production within a controlled environment. The system is designed to improve consistency, efficiency, and food safety while reducing production risks often associated with traditional setups.
The facility will include strict biosecurity protocols and farm management systems based on global standards, adjusted for Philippine operating conditions. The approach is intended to support stable output while maintaining quality benchmarks across production cycles.
Sustainability features are also built into the site design, including an odor control system and a biogas facility that converts waste into renewable energy for on-site use.
Zamboanga positioned as an agri hub
The facility spans 22 hectares and is expected to generate jobs during both construction and full operations, with additional economic activity anticipated in surrounding communities in Zamboanga City and nearby areas.
Local officials present during the groundbreaking ceremony said the project strengthens the region’s position as a growing center for modern agricultural infrastructure in Mindanao.
For Mega Prime Foods, the investment marks a continued shift from its origins as a fishing company founded in 1975 under Mega Fishing Corporation into a diversified food manufacturer with interests spanning seafood and now large-scale agriculture.
As demand for affordable protein continues to rise, the company is banking on industrial-scale production and tighter systems integration to support long-term supply stability in the Philippine food sector.
From the ocean to the farm: Mega Prime Foods is diversifying into large-scale agriculture with a massive new egg-laying complex in Zamboanga. Discover how this 100-million-egg project aims to crack the code on affordable nutrition in 2026.
