The beloved roadside landmark in Barangay Sambong has officially closed, but Mushroom Burger has relocated just minutes away to a new branch across from Taal Vista Hotel.
After 47 years, one of Tagaytay’s most recognizable dining landmarks has officially closed its original home.
For generations of Filipinos, a trip to Tagaytay was never complete without a stop at the iconic Mushroom Burger branch in Barangay Sambong. This week, many longtime customers bid farewell as the beloved restaurant officially closed its doors after 47 years at its original location.
The closure, however, does not mark the end of Mushroom Burger.
The homegrown restaurant has relocated to a new, more modern branch in Barangay Kaybagal South, just a short distance from the original site and directly across from Taal Vista Hotel along the Tagaytay-Batangas Highway. The new store continues to serve the same menu daily from 7 AM to 10 PM.
The original Sambong branch had become more than just a restaurant since opening in the late 1970s. It evolved into one of Tagaytay’s most recognizable roadside landmarks, remembered for its old-school charm, sprawling grounds, and its mushroom-shaped playground, which became a favorite stop for families, school field trips, and road-trippers over the decades.
News of the closure sparked nostalgia online, with many recalling childhood memories of eating Mushroom Burgers after family outings or playing in the restaurant’s garden before heading back to Metro Manila. Others described the restaurant as an institution that became synonymous with every Tagaytay food trip.
Founded in the late 1970s, Mushroom Burger built its reputation around its signature burger patties blended with mushrooms grown on the company’s own farm. The concept reportedly began after a customer suggested that mushrooms could make an excellent burger ingredient—an idea that eventually became one of the Philippines’ most enduring homegrown food brands.
While the original Sambong branch is now part of history, the move ensures that Mushroom Burger continues to serve new generations of customers in a refreshed location, carrying with it nearly five decades of memories that have made it one of Tagaytay’s most enduring culinary icons.
