Online sellers, influencers, freelancers, and digital businesses now need a QR-verifiable BIR seal.

Buying from an online shop or booking a freelancer through social media may soon come with a new trust check.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue has ordered online sellers, influencers, freelancers, vloggers, and other digital earners to publicly display a Registration Seal Badge on their websites, e-commerce pages, or business accounts as proof that they are registered taxpayers.

The badge comes with a QR code that customers can scan to verify whether a business is legitimately registered with the BIR, giving online buyers a faster way to spot questionable sellers before sending money.

The new digital mandate

The order also raises the pressure on small online businesses to formalize operations as the government tightens its watch over the country’s fast-growing digital economy. Buyers, meanwhile, may finally get an easier way to weed out anonymous sellers, fake shops, and accounts that disappear after payment in an online marketplace where scams have become alarmingly common.

The BIR said the seal will replace the public posting of full Certificates of Registration to avoid exposing sensitive information while still allowing verification. The badge may be secured online through the agency’s ORUS platform or manually through revenue district offices.

Handling the badge era transition

Don't wait for the audit. Even though the BIR says existing CORs are still valid, having the Registration Seal Badge is an immediate competitive advantage. It tells your clients, "I am a legitimate professional who follows the law."

The BIR specifically recommends placing the seal in easily accessible sections like About Us or Business Permits. Placing it too deep in your site could trigger a compliance check.

Once you generate your badge, scan it yourself using a standard mobile app. Ensure it leads correctly to the BIR portal before you finalize your site layout.
