The peso fell past the ₱62.80 level to set another record low against the dollar, while local shares snapped a two-day decline to stay above 6,070.
Philippine financial markets opened the week on a mixed note on Monday, September 14, 2026, as the Philippine peso dropped to a fresh all-time low while the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) pulled off a modest recovery.
The PSEi gained 13.26 points, or 0.22%, to close at 6,075.07, snapping its two-day losing streak.
The benchmark index held above the 6,000 threshold for the eighth consecutive session, sustaining its key support level despite persistent market pressures.
Peso sinks to another record low
Meanwhile, the Philippine peso lost 18 centavos to close at ₱62.86 against the US dollar, extending its decline for a third straight session and setting a new historic low.
The latest finish surpassed the previous record of ₱62.68 set in the prior session. The local currency touched an intraday low of ₱62.875, weakening by 10 centavos compared to Friday’s intraday trough of ₱62.775 as selling pressure pushed it deeper past the ₱62 level.
Monday’s session reflected ongoing divergence in local markets. While equities found slight relief to post mild gains, the peso continued its downward slope to notch its fourth record low of the month.
